Our Family

Our farm has a deep-rooted history in this region. My family has been living and working on these lands since the early 1900s, a time when sharecropping was common, and large estates dominated Montenero d'Orcia and the rest of Italy.

Our Family
I'm Giada and I've been running the farm since 2016.

I graduated in Dietetics in 2010 and after a couple of years spent in the kitchens of Sienese restaurants I decided to return to the fold, in the true sense of the word!

Since then, my days are spent with one glance at the sky, to see if it will be clement, and with one at the earth I am working on. It wasn't easy at first but I can safely say that I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. Farm work is hard, but the satisfaction of running the family business repays me for every effort.

I love animals and take personal care of the ones on the farm, whether it's my big dogs, cats, chickens, but especially the sheep.

My mother Tiziana works with me on the farm. She mainly looks after our sheep and the vegetable garden but, more importantly, she prepares lunches and dinners. Cooking is her great passion: typical Tuscan dishes are her speciality, but she doesn't shy away from experimenting with something new. When situations allow, she still makes cheese, ricotta and homemade ravaggiolo (typical Tuscan fresh cheese), a real treat!

My sister Aurora who, during the week is busy elsewhere, in the weekend helps us, whenever possible: Aurora helps me with the administration of the farm, in the garden but, above all, she support me when things get complicated.

Finally, there is our grandmother Genovina. Grandma lives on a farm close to ours, visible in the distance from the terrace of the farmhouse. Our mother lived there until she married my father, and it is there that Grandma continues to prepare, strictly by hand, the best pici I have ever eaten.

Then there are our supporters: Uncle Tizi and Aunt Stefy, who have always supported me, and continue to do so, in every way possible; Aunt Anna, who is our historical memory of the family history and knows the farm better than we do; our father's cousins (who also live on a farm nearby) and who always know how to advise me on the best way to carry out the various jobs on the farm.

Last, but certainly not least, my boyfriend Ciro who supports me and helps me on every occasion.

Furthermore, in the perfect farming tradition, our neighbours are fantastic and have been fundamental especially in the hardest time.
